1966 Chevrolet El Camino - Classic Cars of 1966
The sedan pick-up needs to be on this list. Somewhat ordinary in the mid-60s, the sight of a 1966 Chevy El Camino in mint condition today, and you'd more than likely lift your brow and drop your jaw. Pushing a couple different engine options, the popular V8 Custom model started at a modest $2,504 and offered a redesign similar to the popular Chevrolet Chevelle. If shopping around for the increasingly-rare car-truck now, you'd be lucky to find a '66 in mint condition for less than $15,000.
1966 Ford Thunderbird - Classic Cars of 1966
The 1966 Ford Thunderbird offered a couple more classic options to the Thunderbird line. The V8 390 was designed for luxury cruising, and it boasted plenty of power and pep to get up and run from a stand-still. The '66 T-Bird came in four models, the Conventional Hardtop, Town Hardtop, Town Landau and convertible. This luxury coupe was sold for $4,894 when new.
1966 Ford Bronco - Classic Cars of 1966
The Ford Bronco was born in 1966, and was designed primarily to compete with the Jeep CJ models as well as the beastly International Harverster. The first generation Ford Bronco presented the initials ORV (Off-Road Vehicle) to the masses, and was quite popular with individuals who were looking to get off of the pavement on a regular basis. The early, mid-size Bronco didn't offer much in regards to towing capacity, something that Ford quickly changed with the redesign that came in 1978.
1966 AMC Marlin - Classic Cars of 1966
A cross between a Rambler and a fish? Something of that nature might have inspired the designers of the AMC Marlin. It's becoming increasingly rare to find a '66 Marlin in running condition, and most often they're found at car shows and possibly at classic auto-auctions. Only 4,547 of these cars were built. The top-of-the-line '66 rolled on a powerful V8 327 that boasted 270 horsepower. They are true collectors items.
1966 Chevrolet Nova SS - Classic Cars of 1966
The 1966 Chevy Nova SS presented Chevy lovers with a redesign that made the Nova look significantly meaner, stronger and faster. Coincidentally, it was meaner, stronger and faster. The top of the line Nova ran with a 327 ci V8 that pushed 350 horsepower running on a 4-speed manual transmission. The SS could turn a quarter mile in just over 15 seconds, and not surprisingly, many young drivers got behind the wheel to see what other rides their Nova could compete with. The price tag on the '66 Chevrolet Nova SS was a modest $2,535.
